reNEW, reUSE, reVIEW

**Eyedrum Music & Art Gallery seeks entries of two-dimensional, sculptural, performance, literary and musical works for a group show opening in January**
For its first show of 2008, Eyedrum is looking for Atlanta’s biggest copycats in the realms of art, literature and music. We want new interpretations, updates of older works to reflect a modern point of view, a modification, an homage. The work you play on can be your own, something universally recognizable, or even local (we are dreaming of some hilariously insightful local Atlanta artist-imitating-artist stuff here). Make a statement, make us think or just make fun.
Join us in a pondering of the used, reused, copied, mimicked, admired and what happens when an old idea is revamped:
- Can an old idea/image/item ever truly be made new?
- Are there sincerely new ideas anymore or simply modifications and (sometimes not so) carefully hidden regurgitations of the old?
- Is an act of modification to a piece of art/literature/music a mere commentary on the foundation which it modifies or is it a new piece of art all its own?
- Or, if assuming that art in its many forms is all part of a cultural dialogue, does the commentary itself constitute art?
- Clearly, we could go on.
We want answers to these questions…we want tangible expressions of the artist’s journey through the exploration of these questions (and the millions of subsequent questions.) Put the proverbial mustache on the Mona Lisa.
ENTRIES/PROPOSALS DUE DECEMBER 15th. All visual elements will have to be ready for delivery/installation by the beginning of January.
